Celfi Roam Update - Learn more about Enabling Satellite Mode on your Cel-Fi Roam R41 or GO4 G41

Tue, 12 Aug 2025

On August 15th, 2025 - The Celfi WAVE App will release an update for the CF-GO4 GO G41 and CF-R41 Roam R41 units. Within this update, some new features will become available within the settings of your WAVE App (when connected to your Go G41 or R41).

The first update we are excited about is the Stationary Mode for Roam R41 units. This new feature will allow your R41 to work correctly for a house or dwelling by offering a more stable option for Stationary installation. When Stationary Mode is activated, within the WAVE app, your R41 unit will lock onto the best tower it can receive signal from. It will also enable 5G FDD channels, allowing the R41 unit to have a more stable 5G connection. This 5G FDD connection will only work on the Rural 5G Band 28 signal and not the local Perth N7 and N78 Bands. (Please note, the R41 is only recommended to be used on a house/ dwelling where the area of coverage required is less than 40 square meters. Their range is limited and will not cover a full home.

The other main new feature is the ability to enable Satellite Mode (Suitable for Telstra only). Users will be able to switch Satellite Mode on and off in the WAVE app. Below is some more information on what Satellite Mode is -

Enabling Satellite Mode for CEL-FI ROAM R41 and GO G41

Your compatible Cel-Fi unit will have the ability to enhance Direct-to-Cell services by improving the satellite signal when the line-of-sight connection is impeded. This enhancement may be necessary in situations such as when you are:

  • In a vehicle with a closed roof, where the car itself is partially blocking the satellite service
  • Inside a building where only satellite service is available and the building materials and/or roof are degrading the satellite connection
  • At a remote location when the topography and landforms – such as hills, valleys – and trees/vegetation may interfere with signal

Terrestrial vs. Satellite Mode

It is simple to enable Satellite Mode on your Celfi Roam, but it does require a software update for your device. This update makes it possible to switch your device between Satellite and Terrestrial Modes.

First let’s start with some important notes related to managing an upgraded device that supports Direct-To-Cell services.

  • If no terrestrial signal is available, your device will automatically switch to Satellite Mode.
  • While automatic switching to satellite is a convenient feature designed to help keep you connected, we recommend that you manually switch to Satellite Mode when you know you will be out of range of terrestrial networks. This best practice will help remind you to switch back to Terrestrial Mode when available. Your device performance is optimized in Terrestrial Mode.
  • The device will NOT automatically switch back to Terrestrial Mode once you are in range of terrestrial networks. To reconnect to the terrestrial network, use the WAVE App to manually switch back to Terrestrial Mode.

Switching Signal Sources Between Terrestrial and Satellite

To easily switch your device back and forth from Satellite Mode, there are three basic processes you need to learn:

Checking for Software Updates
To ensure compatibility with Satellite Mode, make sure your device is running the latest software version:

  • Open the WAVE App and connect to your device.
  • Go to Settings > Software Version.
  • If an update is available, tap Update Now and wait for the process to complete.
  • Your device will automatically restart after the update.

Enabling Satellite Mode

  • In the WAVE App, navigate to Settings > Signal Source.
  • Select the Satellite option and tap Update.
  • Wait for the update to complete. The device will restart automatically and be in Satellite Mode.

Returning to Terrestrial Mode

  • In the WAVE App, navigate to Settings > Signal Source.
  • Select the Terrestrial option and tap Update.
  • Wait for the update to complete. The device will restart automatically and be in Terrestrial Mode.

Using Satellite Coverage on a GO G41

The GO G41 will select the strongest signal available. When no terrestrial signal is available, the GO41 automatically switches to satellite bands and channels.

You can verify which bands and channels your GO G41 is connected to in the WAVE App by going to Settings > Band & Channel Settings.
